Analytics

Understand how your upsells contribute to your store growth

Introduction

The Analytics page shows merchants how upsells contribute to their store's overall performance over a selected period, including upsell revenue, the additional order value generated by upsells, the number of orders containing upsells, and the best-performing upsold products.

Analytics aggregates data across all funnels, including unpublished funnels that generated orders during the selected period.

  2. Select a date range and comparison period from the top bar.

Data tables

Table Description

Click a product name or order number to open the corresponding page in Shopify admin in a new tab.

Important rules

  1. What counts as an upsell: A product line item must be added to an order through a GemUpsells widget. This includes products offered through Complementary Products, Product Offer, and Social Commerce widgets, as well as Add-ons services. A customer adding the same product directly from a product page does not count as an upsell. Funnel discount gifts are counted at their actual purchase price of $0, so they do not contribute to upsell revenue.
  2. Subscription conversions are not upsells: Converting a product to a subscription through the Subscription widget does not contribute to Upsells Revenue. The customer selected the product themselves; GemUpsells only changes the purchase method.
  3. Revenue source: Revenue is calculated from upsell line items in Shopify orders.
  4. Refunds, shipping, and taxes: Upsells Revenue does not deduct refunds, shipping fees, or taxes.
  5. Store time zone: All dates and reporting periods use the store's time zone.
  6. Store currency: All monetary values are displayed in the store's current currency.
  7. Empty values and percentage changes: Ratio-based metrics display "—" when there is no valid denominator or calculation. For example, AOV Lift displays "—" when there are no orders with upsells, rather than $0.00. Percentage changes are not displayed when the comparison period's value is zero.
  8. Session and visitor tracking: Session and visitor counts may be lower than the actual figures because customers who decline tracking cookies are not counted. As a result, Upsells CR may be slightly higher than the actual rate.
  9. Order eligibility: Upsells Orders only includes orders attributed to the Online Store sales channel.

Frequently asked questions

Q1. Why does Analytics show 0 even though my funnel is live?

No orders containing products added through GemUpsells widgets may have been recorded during the selected period. Check the date range and filters to confirm.

Q2. Why doesn't a customer's purchase of an offered product count as upsell revenue?

The product must be added through a GemUpsells widget to qualify. Purchasing the same product through another route does not count.

Q3. Why is upsell revenue different from Shopify Analytics?

Shopify Analytics reports overall store revenue, while GemUpsells only counts products added through its widgets, after deducting GemUpsells product discounts. Refunds, shipping fees, and taxes are not deducted.

Q4. Why are my session counts lower in GemUpsells than in Shopify?

GemUpsells does not count visitors who decline tracking cookies, so a small difference in session counts is expected.

Q5. Does converting a product to a subscription count as upsell revenue?

No. Upsell revenue only includes products newly added to an order through GemUpsells widgets. Converting an existing product to a subscription does not count.

Current limitations

  • Analytics does not support breakdowns by device, country, touchpoint, or widget.
  • Upsells Revenue does not deduct refunds.
  • Stores using multiple currencies only see revenue in their current store currency.
  • Individual funnels do not have dedicated analytics detail pages.
