Publish Funnel

Introduction

Publish pushes your funnel to your live store. Before publishing, GemUpsells automatically checks whether the app embed is enabled and whether all touchpoints containing widgets are ready. If an issue is found, you must fix it and run the checks again. You cannot skip these checks.

All changes made in the app, including canvas edits, widget settings, display conditions, and funnel discounts, take effect on the live store only after publishing. The only exception is showing or hiding a touchpoint, which takes effect immediately.

How to Publish a Funnel

  1. In the Funnel Editor, click Publish funnel. If the funnel has already been published, click Republish funnel instead.
  2. The Publishing funnel popover runs three steps. Each step is crossed out when completed.
Step What it checks
Checking theme setup Checks whether the GemUpsells app embed is enabled in the theme.
Verifying funnel Checks whether all touchpoints containing widgets are ready to publish.
Publishing to live store Publishes the funnel to the live store.
  1. Once publishing succeeds, the funnel status changes to Published.

When Publishing Is Blocked

Message What it means How to fix it
GemUpsells app embed is disabled The app embed is disabled in the Shopify theme. Click Enable in Shopify, enable the app embed in the theme editor, and click Save. Return to GemUpsells and click Republish funnel.
Popup on ATC is not published The funnel contains widgets in Popup on ATC, but the touchpoint has not been published. Click Publish on the corresponding row, then click Republish funnel.
Cart Drawer is not published The funnel contains widgets in Cart Drawer, but the touchpoint has not been published. Click Publish on the corresponding row, then click Republish funnel.
Post-purchase app is not set up GemUpsells has not been selected as the store's post-purchase app. Click Setup in Shopify, go to Settings → Checkout, and select GemUpsells as the post-purchase app. Return to GemUpsells and click Republish funnel.

Any touchpoint that fails verification is highlighted with a red border and a Not published badge on the canvas.

Unpublish a Funnel

  1. Open the funnel's More menu and select Unpublish.
  2. Confirm by selecting Unpublish this flow.

The funnel status changes to Draft. Its widgets will no longer appear on the live store until the funnel is published again.

Important Rules

  1. Publishing checks cannot be skipped. The verification popover cannot be dismissed while the checks are blocking publication. You must fix the reported issues and run the checks again.
  2. Only active touchpoints are checked. A touchpoint is checked only if it contains at least one visible widget and is not hidden. For example, Cart Drawer will not trigger a publishing error if its only content is a disabled Subscription group.
  3. The app embed is checked first. If the app embed is disabled, the system stops the verification process because the funnel cannot display on the live store without it.
  4. Post-purchase setup must be completed in Shopify. You cannot configure the post-purchase app directly in GemUpsells. If the funnel contains widgets in Post-purchase, publishing is blocked until GemUpsells is selected as the store's post-purchase app. Alternatively, hide the Post-purchase touchpoint to publish the remaining touchpoints.
  5. Popup on ATC and Cart Drawer must be published separately. These touchpoints are considered ready for the funnel only after they have been published individually.
  6. Changes made after publishing require republishing. Any subsequent changes to the funnel, widgets, display conditions, or funnel discounts change the funnel status to Need republishing. The live store continues to display the previously published version until you click Republish funnel.
  7. Checkout and Thank-you requirements are not verified. The system does not check whether the store has Shopify Plus or whether the required app blocks have been added to Checkout and Thank-you. The funnel can still be published, but widgets at these touchpoints will not appear unless the necessary requirements are met.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. The popover says the app embed is disabled even though I have enabled it.

You may have enabled the app embed without clicking Save in the theme editor, or you may have enabled it in a theme that is not currently live. Make sure you save the changes to the correct theme.

Q2. I don't use Post-purchase, but publishing is still blocked.

The funnel still contains widgets in the Post-purchase touchpoint. Remove the group from that touchpoint or hide the Post-purchase touchpoint, then publish the funnel again.

Q3. The live store still shows the old version after publishing.

Refresh the store page. The previous version may still be cached.

Q4. Why can't I find Subscription in the widget list?

Subscription is a dedicated group available in Cart Drawer and Checkout. Enable it using the Subscription toggle rather than adding it as a widget.

Current Limitations

  • The verification process does not check whether the store has Shopify Plus or whether the required app blocks have been added to Checkout and Thank-you. Publishing can succeed even when these requirements are not met.
