About 14-day Free Trial

Introduction

Paid plans include a 14-day free trial, available once per store. Merchants can cancel at any time during the trial. When they cancel, their store reverts to the Basic (Free) plan. They won't be charged, but their free trial will be considered used.

Each store is eligible for only one 14-day free trial.

At the end of the 14-day trial, Shopify automatically starts charging the subscription fee for the selected plan (Shopify: Free trials). If the charge fails, the subscription is frozen, and the merchant loses access to GemUpsells until they successfully subscribe to a plan.

If a merchant changes plans during the trial, the remaining trial days do not carry over to the new plan.

How to use

  1. Open Pricing and scroll to the paid plan you want to try.
  2. Click Start 14-day free trial.
  3. Approve the subscription on Shopify's checkout page. Once you return to the app, the trial plan will appear as Current plan.

To cancel before the trial ends, open Pricing, select Basic, and click Downgrade to cancel the subscription.

GemUpsells Order Cycle vs. Shopify Billing Cycle

GemUpsells Order Cycle Shopify Billing Cycle
Purpose Tracks orders against the plan's order limit Determines when subscription fees are charged
Managed by GemUpsells Shopify
Duration Calendar month in UTC, resetting on the first day of each month 30 days, with prorated charges
Where to check The Orders indicator in the Home header Invoices in Shopify admin

Important: The date your order limit resets (the first day of each month) does not necessarily match the date Shopify issues your subscription invoice.

Key rules

  1. One free trial per store. The trial applies across all paid plans. Once a store has started a trial for any plan, even if the merchant cancels before it ends, the store is no longer eligible for another free trial. All plans will show Upgrade or Downgrade instead of Start free trial.
  2. Fixed trial duration. Every free trial lasts 14 days.
  3. Default plan for new stores. Newly installed stores are automatically assigned to the Basic (Free) plan, which requires no payment method.
  4. Shopify handles all billing. All subscription charges are processed through Shopify.
  5. Upsells pause when the order limit is reached. Upsell offers stop displaying as soon as the store reaches its plan's order limit, regardless of when this happens during the order cycle.
  6. Upsells resume automatically after the order limit resets. Offers start displaying again when the next cycle begins. Merchants do not need to republish their funnels.

Frequently asked questions

Q1. Why can't I see the free trial button?

Your store may have already used its free trial. Each store is eligible for only one free trial across all plans.

Q2. How can I check how many trial days I have left?

Check the Free Trial card in the app sidebar to see the remaining trial days.

Q3. What happens if my trial ends and I don't subscribe?

You will lose access to GemUpsells features until you successfully subscribe to a plan.

Q4. What should I do if I reach my order limit and my upsells stop displaying mid-cycle?

Upgrade your plan to increase your order limit and resume displaying offers on your storefront immediately, or wait until the next cycle begins on the first day of the month for your order limit to reset.

Q5. How am I charged if I change plans mid-cycle?

Shopify prorates the charges for the remaining billing period. Upgrading to a higher-priced plan means paying the price difference, while downgrading to a lower-priced plan may result in account credit.

Q6. Can I get another free trial if I reinstall the app?

No. Each store is eligible for only one free trial, even if the app is uninstalled and reinstalled.
