Pricing Limitations
Introduction
Each plan has monthly usage limits for two resources: online store orders and AI credits.
Every new order recorded by Shopify under the Online Store sales channel counts as one order, whether or not it includes an upsell. Orders created by other apps also count if Shopify attributes them to the Online Store sales channel.
Orders from other sales channels, such as POS (in-person sales), and draft orders are not counted.
Cancelled, refunded, unpaid, and test orders still count toward the order limit.
Each order is counted toward the month in which it was created.
Pricing limitations
| Limit | What happens | When usage resets |
|---|---|---|
| AI credits exhausted | The AI assistant stops accepting new requests and suggests upgrading the plan. | On the first day of the next billing cycle, or immediately after upgrading. |
| Order limit reached | All widgets stop displaying on the live store. In-app features remain fully functional. | On the first day of the next billing cycle, or immediately after upgrading. |
How to count online store orders?
- Each new order recorded by Shopify under the Online Store sales channel counts as one order, whether or not it includes an upsell. Orders created by other apps also count if Shopify records them under the Online Store sales channel.
- Orders from other sales channels, such as POS (in-person sales), and draft orders do not count.
- Cancelled, refunded, unpaid, and test orders still count.
- Each order is counted in the month it was created.
How to calculate AI credits
AI Cost = CostUSD of the LLM model call × 100
Example — one LLM model call:
- Input tokens: 4k
- Output tokens: 1k
- Cost: $0.02
- → GemUpsells cost = 0.02 × 100 = 2 credits
- Each AI assistant request consumes credits based on its actual AI usage cost. Longer or more complex conversations consume more credits, so a single request may cost more than one credit.
- AI credits reset every 30 days according to the plan's billing cycle. Unused credits do not roll over to the next cycle.
- AI credit usage is displayed in each Widget Editor, showing the number of credits used and the total available.
- When the AI credit limit is reached, the merchant can no longer use AI until the credits reset or they upgrade their plan to increase the limit.
Track order usage during the billing cycle
The Home page includes an Order usage button that displays the number of orders generated through the Online Store sales channel during the current billing cycle.
Order usage indicator
| Number color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Black | Order usage is within the normal range. |
| Orange | At least 70% of the order limit has been used, and more than half of the billing cycle has elapsed. |
| Red | The order limit has been reached. Upsells are temporarily paused. |
Clicking Order usage opens a popover with detailed usage information, including:
- Orders used versus the plan's order limit for the current billing cycle.
- Number of days remaining until the billing cycle resets.
Alerts when approaching the order limit
When a merchant approaches or reaches the order limit, alerts appear on the Home page, Pricing page, Funnels listing, and Funnel Editor, depending on the usage level.
Alert behavior by usage level
| Usage level | Home & Pricing | Funnels Listing | Funnel Editor |
|---|---|---|---|
| ≥ 70% of the limit, before the midpoint of the cycle | No alert | No alert | No alert |
| ≥ 70% of the limit, after the midpoint of the cycle | Banner: "You've used X% of your orders limit." The banner can be dismissed for the current session. | No alert | No alert |
| 100% of the limit | Full banner: "You've reached the N monthly online store orders limit of your plan" with an Upgrade plan CTA. | Non-dismissible Upsells paused banner. | Non-dismissible Upsells paused banner. |
